Commanding a Battlegroup

The Battlegroup is the biggest unit within the 5th fleet. Most decisions on personnel are made on Battlegroup-level.

Battlegroup Themes

Since the 5th fleet joined the New Republic battlegroups can have own themes. So the Group Commander can decide which types of carriers, escort ships and fighters are asigned to his Battlegroup. Usually the decision is between Imperial and Alliance technology tree. The Group Commander can decide which uniforms his officers wear.
The type of the flagship is also the decision of the Group Commander. Flagships are usually very unique ships besides the basic technology tree.
Only Battlegroup I is fixed on the original Imperial theme for the 5th fleet.

The Group Commander is also responsible for the Internet Representation of his group.

Personnel Management

Asigning Carrier Captains
The Group Commander asigns Carrier Captains. Sometimes the are preferences from the former captain, sometimes the crew whishes a special officer and often an experiance officer from the ship (Wing Commander or Squadron Commander) is taken, but at the end the Group Commander has the decision which officer gets the command on the ship.
The position of Carrier Captain needs to be filled imediately, in case the crew of the ship isn't zero. If the Group Commanders wants to wait with the permanent decision he can asign one of the experianced officers on the ship temporary to Carrier Captain.

Staff Officers
The Adjuntant to the Group Commander is a position for an officer that helps the Group Commander in administrative things. The Group Commander can asign someone to Adjutant, but only one officer can be in such an Adjutant position at one time. The Adjutant can't promote, asign or decide things himself, but he can present the Group Commanders decision on the Message Board or sent e-mails to officers that need to get informed about something.
The Group Commander can asign Command Assistants for his group too. For example a Command Assistent for the Recruiting Office helps the Group Commander to recruit officers for his group (of cause not from the other Battlegroups). Different to Adjutant multiple officers can be Command Assistent for a single office, so there may be two officers being Command Assistant in the Recruiting Office. Command Assistants can't be asigned to tasks belonging to subgroups. Since the is a subgroup for training officers, the Naval Academy Coruscant, the can't be a Command Assistant for the Trainings Office. In case a Group Commander thinks he needs a special officer for training the members of the group he needs to talk to the Director for asigning the officer to the NAC.
Command Assistants and Adjutants need to be members of the Battlegroup.

Tranfers
The Group Commander has a veto right on all transfers incomming and outgoing his group. He may lose this right in case he has strong personnel differences with the officer, or when he has strong differences with the officer in the fleet and this results in a demotion or in removing from a command position.
The Group Commander can decide that everyone he recruits get placed in his group after graduation from the academy.

Promotions
Basically promotions up to the ranking of Captain are done by the Carrier Captains in the group exept the Carrier Captain is to promote himself. But in case the Carrier Captain isn't aviable the Group Commander can do the promotions himself. He can also do promotions when he thinks an officer did something special for the group.
Promotions to the rankings of Commodore to Admiral are going directly to the office of the Group Commander. There should really be a difference between reaching a ranking like Commander or Captain and reaching one of the admirality rankings. This ranks should be hard to get and an officer should show a special ambition to get into these ranks.

Demotions
Demotion is a special rule in some of the Battlegroups. In these groups the Group Commander, and only the Group Commander can demote officers for deeds against the club or the group. The Demotion Rule is similar to the Promotion rule, the Group Commander can only demote officers in his group, he can't demote himself and he can only demote officers in the ranking of Admiral or lower.
